Symmetry

The meaning is a precise and well-defined concept of balance or "patterned self-similarity" that can be demonstrated or proved according to the rules of a formal system: by geometry, through physics or otherwise.
Ponder - where can I find symmetry?

There are many different places to find symmetry - the first is natural symmetry:

"Natural Symmetry". Sometimes it's good to review a simple principle concept in composition just to keep our eyes trained. Symmetry is just one of those that can help you achieve a sense of balance in your images. This time I want you to look for natural, not man-made symmetry. So no bridges or buildings, etc. as your main subject. Look beyond the obvious; you might be surprised.

The shades are symmetric, the eyes are too, the face is beautiful and so are you!

"Man-made Symmetry" - look for it in things outside of nature. Buildings, roads, playground equipment, tech stuff; the list goes on and on. Check the above sites, if you haven't already, to get your brain thinking.

Freestyle for DPS

This week the photographic challenge was to set yourself a photographic challenge and to share your results!
That’s right – we’re not going to set yourself a specific theme – we want YOU to set yourself one based upon your own goals and life circumstance.

I choose: Black and White HDR Statues
The key is to be proactive with your photography and to set out to photograph something rather than just to just randomly shoot if and when the circumstances arise to do it.
Once you’ve identified your project tell us in comments below what it is (a little public commitment may help you follow through) and then go photograph it!
Once you’ve taken and selected the ‘Freestyle’ image that you’d like to share – upload it to your favourite photo sharing site or blog and tag with #DPSFREESTYLE

Here are mine:

At "our" park

Boston Common

Loves at the park

A weekend around town - Riding the bike

The weekend is upon us, the September weather is great... we take the bike out and ride around to find some fun and exciting things to do...

The Bike

Our Ride:
Our trip started at home at Kenwood street, heading in the opposite way of traffic (but we were on a bike after all). Right on Harvard street, left on Lawton street, and on to Commonwealth Ave, down the hill... Over the BU bridge and on to Memorial drive, to see the Charles river full of activity.

From there we ran into the Cambridge International Carnival:

On to the Park, a ride on the river:

From across the street I saw a beautiful bird landing on a branch very close, and it was large. I quickly stopped and took Mika by the hand to see it up close:
We were right under it, giving us the look

Then it took off right above us:

Well the hawk left and so did we...
Stopped by the MIT Track for some exercise before lunner
