Week 54: Faceless Portrait

Assignment: Faceless Portrait


This week (I skipped a few weeks but will catch up in time), the assignment is to take a portrait of someone or even yourself. It must not show their face, but should show some part of their body. Try to include something that tells something about their personality or the environment they are in.

So here is one that tells me not only about the personality but also the environment and the action about to happen: Red shoes, colorful flowers, white short dress...

Week 53: 50mm indoors

Assignment: 50mm indoors

One more week with this focal length so you get to feel really comfortable with it. This time, take it indoors. If you have a point and shoot or a zoom, just set it at 50mm. If you have a dedicated 50 mm lens - and you can get a 50 mm f/1.8 fairly inexpensively - you will love how you can shoot in lower light. Again, zoom with your feet, try a myriad of angles, and watch how the light hits your subject.

The point is to force yourself to stay at one focal length and adjust yourself rather than your zoom lens.
